This fall, carve more than a pumpkin, carve a symbol of conservation. Our Catalina Island fox templates celebrate one of Catalina’s greatest success stories. Once on the brink of extinction, fewer than 100 island foxes remained on Catalina due to disease. Today, thanks to intensive recovery efforts first by the Institute for Wildlife Services and the Catalina Island Conservancy, more than 1,974 foxes now live all across the Island.
How to Carve a Conservation Success
- Print a template and tape it to your pumpkin.
- Trace the outline by poking small holes along the lines with a toothpick.
- Cut carefully with a small, serrated knife, starting from the center and working outward.
- Take your time on the fine details.
- Place a battery-operated tea light inside and enjoy your glowing Catalina Island fox!
