Catalina Rocks! Guided Geology Excursion
Jul. 25 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
$25 – $35
Uncover the remarkable geologic history hidden within Catalina Island’s rugged landscape on this immersive field excursion. Our guide is Dr. Paul D. Asimow, Eleanor and John R. McMillan Professor of Geology and Geochemistry at Caltech.
We will travel into Catalina’s interior to better understand the Island through the eyes of a world-renowned geologist. Along the way, Asimow will reveal how Catalina’s unique rock formations, tectonic history and dynamic geologic processes have shaped the features we see today. Drawing on decades of research across Earth and planetary sciences — from Catalina Island to Mars — he will share insights into the forces that continue to shape our planet and beyond.
Whether you’re a geology enthusiast, lifelong learner, or simply curious about the natural history of Catalina Island, this excursion offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the field’s leading scientists while experiencing the island’s extraordinary landscape firsthand.
