Geology Workshop with Dr. John Paul Platt

Join us for a geology workshop led by Dr. John Paul Platt, a renowned scholar in geology and professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Southern California. This workshop will take participants into the heart of Catalina Island to discover its unique geologic structures and understand their formation.
Dr. Platt’s research focuses on deformation processes in the Earth’s crust and lithosphere. With over 100 publications to his name, Dr. Platt is a highly esteemed scholar in his field. His research interests include current and historical tectonic plate margin interactions, collisional mountain chains, and tectonophysics, among other topics.
The course fee of this workshop includes: Hand lens, Rite-in the- Rain notebook, and pencil.
Lunch is not included, please pack your own snacks and lunch. Bring a re-usable water bottle and come dressed for a field day with layers, sun protection, long pants and sturdy shoes.
