The data for these bird counts have long been used in hundreds of analyses\, peer-reviewed publications and government reports. \nEvent Details \nThis event begins with transportation from the Trailhead Visitor Center at 6:30 a.m. Participants will be split into groups to cover parts of Catalina that fall within the official designated birding circle. The shuttle will return to Avalon at 1 p.m. for lunch provided by the Conservancy and discussion on birds seen throughout the day. \nThings to Consider \nParticipants need to come prepared for a full day outside in the field\, standing and walking. Sturdy\, close-toed shoes\, sun protection\, and a re-fillable water bottle are recommended. Walking on uneven terrain should be expected. Education staff will guide you through a course-work book while exploring the landscape and ecosystem of Catalina. \nThe Naturalist 2 Training field excursion runs from 8:30am-3:30pm and begins and ends at the Conservancy’s Trailhead Visitor Center. \nCourse workbook is included in the course fee. Boat fare on the Catalina Express is not included. Participants should make those reservations as soon as possible if they do not live on the Island. Lunch at the Restaurant at the Airport in the Sky is not included and participants need to bring or buy their own lunch. \nParticipants need to come prepared for a full day outside in the field\, standing and walking.
