SUMMARY:Guided Botany Excursion
DESCRIPTION:Register Today! \n \nJoin premier Channel Islands botanist Steve Junak for a spring excursion into Catalina’s wildlands. Participants will explore Catalina’s diverse native plant communities\, moving through chaparral\, coastal sage scrub and oak woodland habitats alongside one of California’s foremost island botanists.   \nDrawing on nearly five decades of field research across the Channel Islands\, Junak will guide the group across the landscape. Along the way\, he will share insights into the plants that define each community and the changes he has witnessed over a career of close observation.  \nThis is a rare opportunity to spend a full day in the field with a working researcher\, learning to see the landscape through the eyes of a botanist\, and to understand how a changing climate is quietly reshaping one of California’s most ecologically significant islands.  \nWhat to Bring \n\nPacked lunch to eat in the field\nA reusable water bottle\nSunscreen\nLayered clothing\, as temperatures may vary throughout the day\n\nImportant to Know \nMeet at the Trailhead Visitor Center for a free shuttle into the wildlands. Upon event completion\, we will return to the Trailhead. \nFerry tickets are not included in the cost of this workshop and should be purchased early to ensure a seat is available. Same day ferry riders from Long Beach should reserve the 6 a.m. or 8:15 a.m. Catalina Express boat. \nParticipants should come prepared for being outside in the field\, standing and walking. Sturdy\, close-toed shoes and a re-fillable water bottle are required. Some walking on uneven terrain should be expected.
