Marine Protection and YOU!
Catalina's marine environment is unique. As in the Galapagos, the Island's habitat diversity is created by currents that create distinct temperatures and nutrient levels. This rare confluence makes Catalina's waters home to a wide variety of creatures.
We invite you to view Blue Boat Home: You can Help Protect Catalina's Marine Environment
This short video follows water on its voyage from the skies above Catalina to the land and back to the sea, making the connection between te Island's watersheds and human interactions that can impact water quality.

Mothying Around Catalina There is more to moths than meets the eye!
Moths are considered by many to be the "ugly" sisters of butterflies. Butterflies get most of our attention because of their brightly colored wings that shimmer in the sunlight and their fondness for flowers and nectar. Butterflies are delicate, soft and feminine. They make our springs and summers on the Island beautiful and memorable.
Moths, on the other hand, get the short end of the stick. They fly at night, with bats, owls and mosquitoes. They get in your face, sneak into the house, ruin your clothes, hover around lamps and lights, and leave all that fine "dust" on your fingers when you grab them. They tend to be drab colored, ugly and downright unsightly. But are they really?

THOSE AMAZING CATALINA BIRDS
Strange and bizarre adaptations and behaviors!
We love birds! They sing beautiful songs in the mornings, fill the air with acrobatic flying displays, eat a lot of bugs, and provide food for foxes. Birds also make our spirits soar as they have broken the chains of gravity and have taken wing - something that we humans do quite poorly on our own and only with the use of technology.
